The Great StoryOh God, Creator, Lord of space and time,You have a plan for history sublime. Throughout Your word you make this plan quite clear, And its fulfillment rapidly draws near. You, King of Kings, did awesome means employ The devil's works to utterly destroy And some from every people to redeem That they may glorify You as supreme. You sent your Son to for our sins atone; We're saved through faith in Christ, and Him alone. Those who accept Him will in heaven be; The rest eternal punishment will see. For now it is our task Your church to plant In every people where Your own are scant. The church will be distinct wher'er it's spread; Yet still it will be one, with Christ as Head. At Christ's return we'll see You face-to-face With those from every language, tribe, and race, As we stand near the throne, before the Lamb And give You all the glory, great I Am. Copyright © DUS (a.k.a. "Global Pilgrim"), 2007 I composed this missions poem as a hymn. It can be sung to the tune of Go forth and tell (Songs of Fellowship 2, #738). A MIDI version of the tune can be found here. (It has an intro before the beginning of the tune though.) (Note that in some other songbooks an alternate tune, not quite as fitting, is used for the song Go forth and tell.) There's even a PowerPoint with the lyrics of The Great Story for your convenience. I used http://www.rhymezone.com/ extensively to find rhymes for this poem. |
